The founders of Unico are childhood friends Andrea Vitali, Enrico Zecchini and Andrea Tonelli who have links with Cremeria Funivia, one of the most famous gelato shops in Bologna. Their smooth, creamy gelato comes in classic flavours including chocolate, salted caramel and vanilla but also some exciting combos like cremino (hazelnut infused into chocolate and cream) and cream Bologna (vanilla and Sicilian lemon zest). It’s actually not all gelato here – they sell cakes, pastries and ‘sandwiches’ too. The latter are called ‘bubbles’ a type of spherical Italian creation a bit like a savoury doughnut. Each bubble has a filling from a different region of Italy, including Parma ham, aubergine Parmigiana and spinach and ricotta cheese, from Verona.
Unico uses traditional ingredients, without preservatives or artificial flavors, and offers healthy and fresh products prepared during the day. The excellent quality produce on offer, alongside the stylishly modern, brightly lit and pastel hued interiors, make Unico an exciting addition to the Italian food scene in London
